Kirsty's marathon
[social media for charity Child of Hope]
Earlier this month, Kirsty Foster was out on the sunny streets of Cardiff running the half marathon for CoH with 23,000 others. She gave us this report...
"Taking part in such a huge community event is so inspiring - let alone knowing that the money I am raising for Child of Hope will contribute to the amazing work they continue to do with the community in Namatala Eastern Uganda.
"On the race day there were an estimated 500,000 spectators on the the street, so just a phenomenal atmosphere, with strangers cheering on strangers and people coming out and gathering together in a way we don't normally experience. I was determined to run a personal best time and also to beat my record of giving as many children high fives en route as possible! Read more...

Painful jiggers
[Social media post for charity Child of Hope]
Erick is one of our many kids to have suffered from jiggers – one of the most debilitating medical conditions in sub-Saharan Africa.
The problem lies with chigoe fleas that burrow into exposed skin on the feet to lay eggs. During that time they swell dramatically, sometimes causing intense irritation. If the flea is left within the skin, dangerous problems can occur including secondary infections, loss of nails, deep holes in the flesh and toe deformation. Not nice.
It prevents millions of children from attending school, stops farmers from working their land, and makes walking all but unbearable. Jiggers entrenches families deeper into poverty – read more about it on Wikipedia.
Erick was missing school a lot, or coming in pain (he loves to study), but was finding it hard to walk from home and concentrate in class due to the itching and pain in his feet. But with help from our health and welfare teams, poor Erick is now relieved of the pain and happy – and doing well in class again.
Would you like to sponsor Erick or one of his classmates? It costs just £15 per month and you’ll get regular letters and photos from him! Click here for details.

[Photography and social media for Store & Secure, Bournemouth]

Living in shared accommodation: don’t risk mail and packages getting stolen – have them sent to your mailbox and collect when convenient to you.
Buying goods online: you can have your purchases delivered to your mailbox address and we'll sign for your deliveries, so you don’t have to hang around waiting for your deliveries.
Out of the office a lot: don't worry about packages being returned or left on your doorstep. We’ll receive your deliveries from the Royal Mail or carrier, and hold them for you to collect when you’re ready.
Living abroad: but want to keep a UK address. We will receive your post and even forward it to you.
Temporary address: we can provide you with a more permanent base in for your important mail and forward mail to you as required.
Call us today if you’d like to discuss how a mailbox could work for you.

Lots of dynamics affect the creativity of office workers – and the interior designers we work with are well aware of how to help organisations get the best from their staff.
Well, here’s an interesting take on office space and layout trends from USA office equipment manufacturer Steelcase, in an article called 10 Trends in Office Design from CCIM Institute. Very interesting and worth a read!

Now in Ireland
[Social media post for African slum charity Child of Hope]
Child of Hope is now officially represented in Ireland – by Richard Latham and Cliona Davey, based in Dublin.
They were introduced to the work of Child of Hope in 2011 when Cliona volunteered at our school on the Welsh Assembly's management development programme International Learning Opportunities. She spent eight weeks helping to set up our fledgling welfare team and setting its highly-effective practices in place.
Richard joined her to visit the school at the end of her stay, and both were impressed by the high social impact caused by the school and its various programmes to benefit its pupils and their wider families.
Our friends and supporters in Ireland can now donate and sponsor a child in euros.

Sleep on that
[Photography and social media for high-end joinery Kirolite]
Here are pictures just through of bespoke fitted bedroom furniture we designed, manufactured and fitted at a luxury south coast residence.
There are two wardrobes, one in the master bedroom and the other in a guest room, frames in stone grey with ABS edging and fronts in satin walnut finish. For aesthetics both units are fitted with backs, rather than straight onto the wall, creating a fully-finished piece.
If you have a high-end bedroom design project, call us for a quote! We are experts in beautiful finishes using wood, lacquer finishing for solid colours and solid surface for a seamless dressing table top, along with lovely finishing touches with leather, metal and glass.

Sponsor a child and help launch him out of poverty
[Social media for slum kids' charity Child of Hope]
Now our amazing school is nearly complete, we are turning our focus on its running costs. Clearly, running the school and providing free education (and a whole lot more) to our 360 pupils costs quite a lot – actually it’s getting close to £6,000 a month. And as we head towards our target of 600 slum children, it’s going to get bigger by far.
So, we’d really like to attract more sponsors for our children. Currently around 200 of them are sponsored, which is fantastic – but that means that 160 children still need a sponsor! Actually, all our children get the same education, care and love, whether or not they are sponsored – those not yet sponsored are supported by our general funds.
Some donors like to sponsor a child as it gives the opportunity for a relationship with the child. Sponsors receive two or three letters and school reports each year from the child and at least one photograph every year - which you can stick on the fridge to remember them! You can make the relationship as personal as you like… some sponsors send letters and birthday presents… it’s up to you and we can offer advice on how to do this.
For just £15 a month (€20 in Ireland), child sponsorship helps pay for staff wages, food, uniform, healthcare, welfare workers and some resources. It’s amazing to think how far your money will stretch. So... want to help? If so, please click here for more information and how to sign up.
If you are already a child sponsor… thank you very much! You could help us by telling your family, friends and work colleagues about our child sponsorships – you’ll be surprised how many people, like you, want to help break children out of poverty this way.
